Hoisting HVAC's and AHU's Calgary, Alberta

If you happened to pass Calgary’s airport lately, you might have observed our cranes in action, hoisting AHUs (Air-handling Units) or HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) units. Our cranes were working on the Green Dome Islamic School project, a valuable addition to Calgary’s expanding northeast community. Due to the building’s location near the airport, we faced a boom height restriction of 96ft, which would be challenging when lifting a unit weighing 16,000 lbs to the highest point of the building. However, our team successfully executed the lift operation despite the challenges, thanks to meticulous planning. These lifting jobs demonstrates our ability to deliver results within tight timeframes.

Our team brought their 130-ton Tadano ATF 110G-5 crane to the site, with Jay operating it while Nate and Lloyd acted as riggers. The first obstacle they faced was mud, a common issue due to the time of year. However, the crew had taken some precautions during the site orientation to mitigate the muddy conditions. After completing the orientation, they were ready to start the job. The HVAC units were scheduled to arrive after the crane was set up and ready. The team began with two smaller units before lifting the behemoth 16,000lb unit. They made sure that the crane boom didn’t exceed 96ft. The job was completed successfully, and there were no delays.

Shortly after, we were called back to hoist AHUs into the front of the building before Jack & Rolling them into their final position. The front section of the building was removed and modified so our crew could fit the units while having their harnesses attached. We brought along our 50-ton Manitex 50155SHL, a versatile and powerful crane that Crikey Davis operated with precision. Nate would be on the ground, rigging up the AHU units so Beebs and Brock could receive them up top before beginning the Jack & Rolling process. Our equipment, combined with the expertise of our team, ensured a smooth and successful operation.
